Save water – tips and tricks

With today’s climate change, waterstress is a hot topic all over the world. Temperatures in Europe are rising twice as fast as the global average, according to the report “State of the European Climate 2022“. It is clear we have to handle water with care.

Below we list some simple tips & tricks you can apply in everyday life. These will help you not only to save water, but also money!

Within the house

  • Avoid leaks in the house by checking your water meter frequently
  • Connect your toilet to a rainwater cistern
  • Drink tap water, 1 liter of tap water costs less than 1 cent
  • Opt for a shower and use a shower timer
  • Install a water-saving showerhead
  • Choose your electrical appliances wisely (some appliances are real water consumers)
  • Don’t leave the faucet running when brushing your teeth or washing your hands
  • Leave those dirty dishes and dirty laundry! Wash only when you have a full machine
  • Wash your clothes in cold water, this helps save the colors as well

In the garden

  • Collect and use rainwater as much as possible
  • Water your plants with rainwater
  • Use a watering can instead of a hose
  • Water your plants early in the morning or late in the evening. This prevents the water from evaporating too quickly and damaging the plants
  • Wash your car with a bucket and sponge. Four 10-liter buckets are usually enough. If you wash your car with a garden hose, you will soon need about 150 liters
  • Don’t waste water on paths and patios
